Having used it myself, I am very pleased with its quality, but the question remains as to whether it should be free.
My personal opinion is that it is perfectly reasonable for the product vendors to charge for the software. The software developers are constantly upgrading it to meet requirements and keep it working, so it seems fine for them to receive some form of compensation for their efforts.
